Une célébration de vie ou des
funérailles, qu’elle est la différence? A life celebration or funeral,
what’s the difference?
Plusieurs d’entre nous ont entendu le terme célébration de
vie ; en effet, il semble que ce soit le nouveau mot à la mode
de l’industrie funéraire. Mais la semaine dernière, j’ai assisté à
ce qui était considéré comme une célébration de vie, et même
si je m’attendais à un événement joyeux, c’était plutôt comme
un enterrement. À la suite de cette expérience, j’ai cru qu’il
serait intéressant de comparer les différences entre les deux
en visitant alaVida.ca, le principal fournisseur de célébrations
de vie à Montréal qui est aussi une division de Kane & Fetterly,
une entreprise familiale de maison funéraire. J’ai pensé que leur
interprétation serait informative, puisqu’ils offrent les services
traditionnels et les nouveaux services de célébrations de vie. Ce
qui est bien, c’est que tout semble permis de nos jours Many of us are hearing the term Life Celebration; indeed
it seems to be the new buzzword of the funeral industry.
But last week, I attended what was considered a Life
Celebration and although I expected it to be a joyous event,
it turned out to be just like a funeral. From that experience,
I thought it would be interesting to look at what makes the
two different by checking in with alaVida.ca, Montreal’s
leading provider of Life Celebration events that is equally
a division of Kane & Fetterly, a family owned and run
funeral home. I thought their interpretation might be
enlightening since they do both traditional service and new,
contemporary Life Celebration events. The nice thing is that
it seems everything goes these days.

Here’s how it differs from convetional funerals:

A Life Celebration is a tribute to someone’s whole life,
not just his or her ending. Therefore, it has a story that
hopefully draws smiles, laughter and joy from guests.
Not to say that tears are not allowed or present at Life
Celebration events, but in general it’s not planned as a tear-
jerking, melancholy occasion.
