MONTRÉAL INVIVO PROJECT RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE WORKING GROUP ON THE LIFE SCIENCES
In 2015, each of the four Montréal InVivo projects actively participated in discussions with the Working Group on Life Sciences.
The following recommendations were made.
General recommendation: The Working Group on Life Sciences should become a permanent vehicle that will define an ambitious vision
focused on innovation in Quebec and foster exchanges between the industry and government to help provide a more stable business
climate.
Recommendations of the Research & Innovation Project to the provincial Research & Innovation Project: (1) Support the early
clinical research niche in Quebec by investing in the early stages of this market’s development. (2) Maintain support for the
personalized health care niche, which has already generated investments of more than $54 million from 2009 to 2014.
Recommendations of the Integration of Innovation Project to the provincial Integration of Innovation into the Health and Social
Services Network Project: (1) Establish a Health Innovation Council that would affirm and convey a clear position in favour of innovation
in Québec. (2) Provide this Council with specialized resources that would help institutions integrate innovation and a fund to finance
pilot projects on patient care integration or field assessments, under the supervision of SMBs or care network teams.
Recommendations of the Growth of Companies Project to the provincial Industry Challenges Project: (1) Create a financial vehicle
to support the growth of SMBs. (2) Create a financial vehicle for buyouts to keep our most successful companies in Quebec.
Recommendations of the Promotion and Business Development Project to the provincial Promotion Project: (1) Promote the sector
as a cluster internationally to attract foreign investment in research and innovation to Quebec. (2) Develop an ongoing profile of the
life sciences and health technologies (LSHT) sector, including a spotlight on a flagship field of expertise. This study would form the
backbone of the sector’s public activities and become the industry benchmark indicators.
