Monticello is home to scenic park system

Monticello is home to 28 city-owned and maintained parks, as well as one regional county park and one state park, along with miles and miles of trails. Here are some of the most frequented, versatile parks in town:
East Bridge Park— Located between East River Street and the Mississippi River, East Bridge Park is home to a popular sliding hill and beautiful gardens maintained by the East Bridge Gardeners volunteer group.
West Bridge Park— In the heart of downtown at River and Walnut streets, West Bridge received a slate of improvements recently, including landscaping, trees, sustainable features, a stone terraced seating area, ADA-accessible pathways and more. As of this spring, the park will be home to an expanded playground for all ages and abilities, complete with ziplines. There’ s also a basketball court, newly upgraded community room available for rent and river access with a fishing pier.
Ellison Park— Located parallel to East River Street, Ellison Park is popular year-round, with a large playground, multiple sheltered areas, and plenty of riverfront property, as well as a boat lift and a fishing dock.
Pioneer Park— At the corner of Fallon Avenue and School Boulevard, Pioneer Park offers a large shelter and playground. During the summer, it plays host to the city’ s Movies in the Park series, along with other fun events, including Family Fun Night during Riverfest, featuring one of the largest car shows in the region.

Fourth Street Park— The park hosts two ice skating rinks that are maintained throughout the winter, a warming house and an additional patch of ice.

Wright County
Montissippi Regional Park— On the west edge of town off County Road 75, Montissippi offers a seclusive setting along the river. Connected, via paved trails, to downtown Monticello, this park is a haven for joggers and bikers, as it is home to several trails. The park also has a boat launch and fishing pier.
State Park
Lake Maria State Park— Located seven miles west of Monticello off County Road 39, Lake Maria is the lone state park in Wright County. The park is known for its great scenery, which can be enjoyed hiking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing and backpack camping.
