Local library offers space to learn and grow
The Monticello Public Library is a branch of the Great River Regional Library ( GRRL ) System , which is based in St . Cloud . Located near the Monticello Community Center at 200 W . Sixth St ., the library is open from 10 a . m . to 7 p . m . Monday ; noon to 7 p . m . Tuesday ; 10 a . m . to 7 p . m . Wednesday ; noon to 7 p . m . Thursday ; 10 a . m . to 5 p . m . Friday ; and 10 a . m . to 2 p . m . Saturday . It is closed on Sunday .
The Monticello Public Library hosts numerous weekly activities for children , families , adults and senior citizens .
For its youngest patrons , the library hosts regularly scheduled events such as Family Fun Storytime .
Two therapy dogs , Willow and Desi , also make regular stops at the library , with the aim of helping children read .
There are events geared toward teenagers , as well , and ongoing programs for all ages , like Take & Make Tuesdays .
An adult book club meets the second Wednesday of each month , with plenty of lively discussion and coffee .
The library underwent an interior makeover in 2024 , with new carpet laid , walls freshly painted , some reorganization and plenty of tidying up .
Many of the programs and events at the library are brought together by the Friends of the Monticello Library , a group formed in 2004 . Among other activities and fundraising events , the Friends hold used book sales at the library twice a year , offering thousands of used titles , along with puzzles , CDs , DVDs and a silent auction too .

Funds raised are used to buy library supplies , fund scholarships , purchase bookshelves and new books and support library programs such as “ Books for Babies ” and “ 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten .”
Patrons of the Monticello Public Library have access to more than 1 million items from the 32 Great River branch libraries . All that is needed to access these items is a library card issued by GRRL . Patrons have access to books , DVDs , music CDs , audiobooks and magazines .
The Great River Regional Library can be searched using the system ’ s online catalog . Patrons can reserve titles and have them delivered to the Monticello Public Library — usually within three days .
The library system also has an extensive digital library on its website ( www . griver . org ) where eBooks and audiobooks can be downloaded .

On the website one will find monthly calendars full of all the library activities . Books , DVDs , CDs , and other library matertails can be seached on this website , as well .
Volunteers are a key part of keeping the library running smoothly . The library is always seeking volunteers and has volunteer applications available during business hours .
