Let ’ s Chalk brings color , creativity to city
Let ’ s Chalk is Monticello ’ s newest two-day street art festival with entertainment , food , and family fun . This free event will be held for the third time in September 2024 .
Let ’ s Chalk features will bright , bold and even 3D art from chalk art professionals and amateurs from across the United States who join together in allowing spectators to watch chalk art masterpieces take shape right before their eyes .
In 2022 , its estimated that more than 10,000 people headed to Walnut Street in downtown Monticello to see the art projects created by about 20 profession and 15 amateur artists .
As visitors strolled along Walnut Street with popsicles , corn dogs , walking tacos , and nacho chips while taking in the live music and live art , some enjoyed guessing at what the finished drawings would be . A 3-D chameleon ? Jack Skellington and Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas ? Jamie Lee Curtis from the movie Halloween ? A pair of Monticello swans , perhaps ? The only way to know for sure was to ask , keep watching the artists , or take a peek at reference drawings many artists had taped to the ground .
Along with seeing the chalk art come to life , festival participants can enjoy food and beverages from local businesses and civic organizations , listen to local musicians . There are family-friendly activities , including chalk fun for kids to draw their own masterpieces .
