Fire department and sheriff keep city safe
The Monticello Fire Department ’ s fire station at 103 Chelsea Road was completed in February 2020 . Fire department operations and its volunteer firefighters moved into the new state-of-the-art fire station in March 2020 .
Fire Chief Michael Mossey heads up the department . Dustin Craig serves as the assistant fire chief . The department currently has about 30 volunteer members .
The Monticello Fire Department operates eight apparatus from one station , including a hazardous materials response trailer . Provided services include fire suppression and prevention / education , rescue services , hazardous materials containment , code enforcement , fire inspections , and permit review .
The Monticello Fire Department serves the City of Monticello , Monticello Township and Silver Creek Township , while also providing mutual aid to neighboring fire departments .
The streets of Monticello are kept safe by the Wright County Sheriff ’ s Office . Sheriff Sean Deringer heads Minnesota ’ s third-largest sheriff ’ s office , with over 250 employees .
The office provides law enforcement services to the unincorporated areas of the county and additionally contracts police services with 13 cities — including Monticello . There are 11 divisions within the sheriff ’ s office : Administration , Bailiff , Civil Process , Communications , Community Services , Corrections , Criminal Investigations , Patrol , Recreational Enforcement , Special Investigation ’ s Unit ( Narcotics ), and Warrants / Transports .
Wright County has one of the top five largest patrol units in the state of Minnesota in terms of deputy numbers . The largest division is the Patrol Division . There are 88 deputies assigned there , including nine sergeants .
