Mayor’s Message M a n u f a c t u r i n g & I n d u s t r y Industry is important to city leadership While new retail busi- nesses are often the most visible examples of eco- nomic growth in Mon- ticello, we also have a strong foundation of in- dustry and manufactur- ing in our community. These businesses are essential to a vibrant economy. Whether large or small, they require highly-skilled workers with a great deal of preci- Monticello Mayor Brian Stumpf sion and expertise. As a result, they bring livable wage jobs for our friends and neighbors, con- tribute to our tax base, and shape Monticello’s region- al and national reputation. They excel at customer service and inspire customer confi dence. They are also known for their signifi cant community involvement, whether through civic lead- ership, membership in volunteer organizations, or sponsorship contributions for some of our favorite community events. One of the best parts of my role as mayor is being a part of the continuous growth and change in our community. The city of Monticello’s Com- prehensive Plan identifi es the goals for the economic health and vitality of our city, and recently we made a great step forward in accomplishing those goals by hiring a new EDA manager. Every year Monticello cel- ebrates these businesses by presenting the Industry of the Year award during Minnesota Manufacturers week. Local businesses are nominated by their peers, and the Industrial and Economic Development Committee work together to select a winner and honor its contri- butions to both the local economy and the community. We invite you to join us as we highlight the 2017 Industry of the Year nominees and celebrate industry and manufacturing in our community.
