HEDLAND COMMUNITY
VOLUNTEER TURTLE
MONITORING PROGRAM
The Care For Hedland Environmental Association
is again gearing up for the Flatback turtle nesting
season and the Association monitors two local
Port Hedland beaches – Cemetery Beach &
Pretty Pool Beach. The monitoring is in three
components: morning track monitoring, evening
monitoring, eco tours for people watching turtle
nesting and a 50-night mark, recapture tagging
program. Any interested volunteers who would
like to assist from 30 October 2015 to 1 March
2016 are most welcome. Volunteers are needed
and can take part in the program for any length of
time from one week to the whole three months.
Volunteers get the opportunity to observe Flatback
turtles returning to the sea, see hatchlings emerge
from nests, assist in turtle rescues, observe the
nesting process at night and be hands on and
assist in the mark, recapture tagging program. If
you are interested contact Coordinator Melissa
Wood for a volunteer information package and
application form. For further details please visit
