The Rover
This new film from Animal Kingdom director David Michôd, is set
10 years after a global economic collapse that leaves the Australian
outback a lawless wasteland, where crime and poverty are common
and small military units patrol the outback attempting to maintain
what little law and order is left. Loner Eric (Guy Pearce) reluctantly
joins forces with Reynolds (Robert Pattinson) to find the gang of
thieves who stole his car. The pursuit of the dusty sedan gives rise
to a story of manly men with no guns, cowardly men with big guns,
and of trigger-happy cruelty that spreads like contagion in a dogeat-dog world.
Initially screened at the Cannes Film Festival, and then at Sydney
Film Festival, The Rover is a gripping suspense thriller.
