Montclair ’ s Mark Kamine makes the shows you talk about

Mark Kamine ’ s work takes him to alot of high-profile locations , including Wailea in Maui , Taormina in Sicily , and Kearny in Hudson County . While Kearny isn ’ t considered as much of atourist attraction as the others , it was Kamine ’ s visit that put it on TV viewers ’ radar : As location manager for The Sopranos , hefound the empty storefront that became Satriale ’ sPork Store .
Kamine has gone on to co-produce films such as Silver Linings Playbook , American Hustle , Ted and other films , and to executive-produce HBO ’ s The White Lotus , becoming an Emmy and Golden Globe award winner in the process . Inhis new book , On Locations , hetakes readers behind the scenes with memorable scene-stealers to show how asuccessful showbiz career takes the same discipline and life balance as other lines of work . Kamine , aformer longtime Montclair resident , shared details with us while working in Thailand , the setting for The White Lotus , Season 3 .
YOUGREW UP IN WAYNE . WHAT PROMPTED YOU TO GO TO NYU FOR FILM SCHOOL ? Lack of acareer and no clear idea of how to get one – that , and , of course , alove of movies . Iwas 30 when Iapplied , and met my future wife acouple months later . When Igot in and told her Iwas thinking of going , she was definitely wondering what she ’ d got herself into . And her father was a documentary filmmaker . She ’ d seen how unstable a career that could be . But I ’ m grateful she stuck with me , and not only because she had asuccessful graphic design business that allowed usto live not like students .
