But when Matthew Zimmer , a property manager and the owner of Churchill General Contractors , looked at it , hesays he saw beyond the unit ’ s leaks and cracks . “ The building has a charm to it , and the former owner was awoodworker ,” he says . “ I wanted to bring this apartment back to its original integrity .” The mission , he says , was inkeeping with his belief that renovating calls for “ livening the soul of the property , not starting anew life and forgetting it was ever built . The emphasis onmyprojects isto renovate where necessary , modernize when appropriate and restore to its original glory .”
