AUTHENTIC MATERIALS
“The top trend that I am seeing in luxury homes is the use of authentic
materials,” says Sandra Funk, owner of the interior design firm House of
Funk in Montclair. “More and more, we are going back to pure materi-
als — actual cedar siding instead of composite, actual hardwood floors
instead of laminate, actual stone countertops instead of Formica. There
is soul, grit, texture and truth to using resources as close to their original
state as possible.” Materials that occur naturally in nature include wood,
bamboo, bricks, stone and iron.
POPS OF METAL ACCENTS
Corona and Ramnarine say that the trend of using bursts of metal accents
to liven up rooms will continue into 2019. They are used to good effect in
both larger rooms painted in neutral tones, and studies and dens painted
in dark colors.
THE NEW BLACK WINDOWS
Black window frames are controversial, but they’re trending for 2019.
They provide contrast against gray and white walls, and offer a modern
update to older homes.
POP ART
“I think you’ll see more pop art by artists such as Andy Warhol, and
more urban and street art,” says Anthony Corona, co-owner, with
Ramel Ramnarine, of Modclair. “We’ll see aggressive art that’s more
out of the box.” ■
