TWICE THE BRA�ILIAN CHARM
While COVID-19 has caused a lot of contractions in the restaurant industry , SAMBA MONTCLAIR �consistently named among New Jersey ’ s Best Latin , Most Romantic and Se�iest Restaurants� has e�panded to double its original size . When the space ne�t door became available in mid-�0�0 , owner and e�ecutive chef Ilson Gon�alves renovated the new 1,000-s�uare-foot dining room to re�ect his creative vision , transforming it into a tropical fantasy with rustic wooden tables , bamboo chandeliers and acanopy of �orals suspended from the lofty ceiling . The focal point is a custom-designed mural of Portugueseborn Brazilian entertainment legend Carmen Miranda , who happens to be Gon�alves ’ idol . And now , with the warmer weather , Samba Montclair can seat an additional socially-distanced �� diners outside .

MAM NAMES ITS NEW E�ECUTI�E DIRECTOR
Ira Wagner has worked onWall Street and as afine photographer . Now he steps up to his ne�t role� After a year of leading the MONTCLAIR ART MUSEUM through the challenges of COVID- 19 as its interim director , he has been named the institution ’ s 10th director since its founding in 191� . In the earlier months of the pandemic , Wagner pivoted the museum to virtual operations , and launched digital programming so art lovers could continue to enjoy its offerings . In September , well before most public venues in the area , he helped MAM reopen safely in a hybrid format .

INDIAN DINING� INDOORS AND OUT
In the Glenridge Avenue spot formerly occupied by MishMish , a modern Indian restaurant is now open for indoor and outdoor dining , as well as takeout and delivery . �ALWA is run by chef Akshay Jhanjee and his brother Arnav� the Jhanjees also own Khyber Grill �rontier Indian and formerly owned Tashan , both in West Caldwell . The duo ’ s father owns the Indian restaurant Bukhara Grill in Manhattan . “ I learned everything from my father ,” Arnav says . Jalwa offers North Indian food , including clay-oven meat dishes , lots of seafood meals , butter chicken and vegetarian and vegan options .
