THE HEART OF THE HOME
“The kitchen or great room area was originally an awkward
space with a separate pantry,” says Grochowski. She opened
up the space to incorporate a large kitchen, wet bar, desk area
and fireplace, adding brightness due to the increased flow
of light. The wall seen at left features a marble backsplash
and floor-to-ceiling cabinetry; warm brass finishes abound,
including the custom sheet metal hood over the cooktop, the
cabinet and appliance pulls, and the stool bases. The granite-
topped island with the waterfall edge is 14 feet long, and seats
six comfortably. (Above) Grochowski added allure to the exist-
ing dining room, located through a doorway near the purple
chairs, by painting the ceiling trim with high-gloss paint and
using metallic paint on the ceiling itself; the chairs were also
reupholstered.
