Annual memberships of $199 grant users access to “triple vetted” Umbrella Neighbors — local handy people, over half of whom are recent retirees themselves. For a flat, fixed rate, they tackle light tasks such as changing light bulbs, cleaning ceiling fans and organizing the garage, as well as more heavy-duty projects such as plumbing issues, power washing and window cleaning. Tech tutoring on iPads, Smart phones and computers, as well as seasonal packages for landscaping and snow removal are also available. The company’s global data analysis indicat- ed that the town had a 98 percent efficiency rate, on average, placing it first among the locations in 54 coun- tries where Bigbelly operates. The most efficient communities after Montclair were Newham Council in the United Kingdom, Florin Road Partnership in Sacramento, Calif., and the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames in the UK.
