According to the Montclair (MHS) Class of 1968 Alumni List webpage, the hit songs at the time were Cream’s “White Room,” “I’ve Got to Get a Message to You” by the Bee Gees and the Beatles’ “Lady Madonna.” The big movies were Funny Girl, Rosemary’s Baby and 2001: A Space Odyssey; The Andy Griffith Show was must-see TV. The era may seem like a kinder, gentler time, until we remember that 1968 was also the year of the Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy assassinations, the Tet Offensive and violent anti-war clashes in Chicago. What happened to the high school students dancing in this photo, we wonder?
