WANTED: YOUR ORAL HISTORY
APRIL 21
The Montclair History Center will hold the third and final session
11 A.M.-2 P.M.
of its MANY VOICES OF MONTCLAIR oral history series at the
Montclair Fire Department Community Room. Organizers invite
those who grew up in Montclair or lived in town prior to 1960 to share their stories as
part of the town’s 10th anniversary observation. “We are reaching out to community
organizations and inviting them to identify the ‘elders’ who carry the history of the
community,” says MHC executive director Jane Eliasof. The MHC has been working
with resident and Montclair State University professor Chris Matthews, who has
trained his students in the art of conducting oral histories, principles and best
practices, and will help with the project. Once the oral histories are complete, they
will be transcribed and housed in the MHC archives, and will eventually be made
available to the public. Montclair Fire Department Community Room,
