Daniel Anderson Artist ’ s sculptures at the World Trade Center bring people together WRITTEN BY KAITLYN KANZLER

With aglobal pandemic creating fear and political divisions coarsening discourse here and abroad , it ’ s common to feel disconnected , and even hopeless . Artist Daniel Anderson decided tocounter those feelings with something tangible : two larger-thanlife sculptures , which were unveiled at the former Ground Zero indowntown Manhattan on September 21 — World Peace Day .

XO World , which can be seen outside One World Trade Center ’ s West Plaza for at least the next two years , is 12 feet tall and 24 feet long , and is inspired by the game of jacks , with its large , chrome jack and O-shaped blue and green globe ; the Xand Ocombo also represents hugs and kisses , of course . The other sculpture , XO Play , shows multi-racial children playing a game of jacks ; it will be on display in the WTC ’ s Oculus transit hub until Dec . 1 , when it will move to another New York City location .
Anderson , anative of Wayne who now lives in Montclair , created the artworks through anonprofit he founded , the nonprofit XO World Project , partnering with Operation International Kids , whose mission is to help those in need receive medical care . His efforts also received support for the New York City launch from The Durst Organization and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey .
