editor ’ s letter

Maybe it ’ s just me , but the period between Labor Day and Thanksgiving has felt like what Iwould call the Longest Shortest Time . This is actually the name of abeloved podcast about parenting by Montclair resident Hillary Frank , but Ithink of that title often to describe the way Iexperience the passage of time these days . With our weather , political lineup and public health conditions in astate of flux , days can seem long , though weeks go by fast . It ’ s hard to remember where , when and how you last saw friends and loved ones . How do you cope with this crazy season ?

If you ’ re best-selling author Christina Baker Kline , you continue to reach out to your audience from adistance . Kline , who moved from Montclair two years ago to Manhattan , has promoted her latest novel , The Exiles , through Zoom events with other chart-topping writers ; she also offers writing tips to readers on her social media accounts . Montclair actor Daniel Belnavis recently performed on aBoston radio station . And scholarship maven Jean O ’ Toole has held virtual tutorials for the Montclair and Bloomfield public libraries .
Their stories remind me that if the will is there , people will stay connected with each other , wherever they are , despite challenges . Happy holidays , Montclair . ■
