A TREE AND SOME TREASURES
The living room is brightened by a custom chandelier from Michael
Maher Design and walls that sport a glazed cross-hatch finish hand-
applied by painters Lisa and Stephen Longworth. The Christmas tree,
which is tucked into the bay window, is topped each year by a different
star selected by Eden and Lukas from the family collection. “We decorate
the tree in a way that reminds me of my own childhood,” says Selassie.
“Bright red bulbs are a staple.” On the mantel, a floral design from Blooms
in Hand rises between rectangular moss containers by Matthew Franklin.
(Top) This space in the foyer to the left of the front door displays some
of Selassie’s figurines. (Above) “The round figurine is a music box that
spins and plays music,” says Selassie. “And the other, an angel on the tree,
is one of about 30 African-American angel figurines I own. They’re special
treasures from an expansive collection of African-American Santas and
angels I’ve been working on for over 30 years.” ■
