A
s we continue to evolve
as a culture, so do the
designs of the dwellings
in which we live and
work. Take, for example,
Nicole Streater’s
beautiful Essex Fells home (“Beauty
and Brains”). If she were designing it
25 years ago, she wouldn’t have been
able to incorporate
smart home technol-
ogy into its many
rooms. And in “Going
to Cowork,” we share
five locations where
individuals can work
remotely — a new and
growing phenomenon.
Of course, some
things don’t change, like the ability of
local residents to surprise and delight.
Lauren Clancy’s IV+Revolution allows
clients to rejuvenate themselves with-
out an expensive hospital stay; Verona
residents Brett D’Alessandro and Alexa
Modero support homeless veterans with
their nonprofit Backpacks for Life. Do
you have an innovation you’d like to
share? Let us know on social media. ■

In the Fall 2018 issue of Montclair Magazine,
we featured the home of ROBERT
CALDERONE and JOSEPH AMORINO
(“Where Every Day is Halloween”).
Amorino recently updated us on a
new addition to the home’s look
for Halloween this year. “I
just installed this 5 foot-
9 inches, life-size sculp-
ture in front of the house,
and he now overlooks a portion
of Upper Mountain Avenue,”
says Amorino, who heads the
art education department at
Kean University. “I completed it
in pipe armature, wire mesh and
cement, all done in my basement.”
