W
e love our
homes in
Montclair;
that’s why fun-
draising house
tours bring in
the big bucks. We’re interested in
designing and adding on to our living
spaces and drawing inspiration from
what our neighbors have
done. As a highlight of
our Design issue, Robert
Calderone and Dr.
Joseph Amorino allow us
to showcase their Upper
Mountain Avenue home,
and how they turn it
into a frightfully fabu-
lous Halloween house
(“Where Every Day is Halloween”).
The George, the inn that makeup
maven Bobbi Brown and her devel-
oper husband, Steven Plofker, opened
in the spring. We catch up with them
to hear how their new enterprise is
doing, and get some great stories.
There’s the one about former Vogue
editor-at-large Andre Leon Talley
wanting to buy the couch in his room;
read “Room at the Inn” to find out
what happened next.
This is the time of year when activi-
ties compete for your time, but if you
can, see Montclair’s own Chris D’Elia
at The Wellmont Theater on Oct. 13
(“At Home with a Mic”). And there’s
a stellar lineup of writers, including
Tayari Jones and Joan Acocella, at this
year’s Open Book/Open Minds series
(check out our Buzzworthy section).
Because October is Breast Cancer
Awareness Month, you’ll want to
read “How to be your Own Best
Advocate.” In the article, Montclair
resident Chiara D’Agostino shares
hard-won advice on how to fight
breast cancer — and how to keep
on fighting. ■
