UP TO CODE
After his computer programmer sister lamented the lack of quality coding programs available to kids in Manhattan, Montclair native— and current Montclair dad— Paul May decided to do something about it. He combined forces with friend and fellow Columbia Business School grad Charu Chatturvedi to found CODEADVANTAGE. The program, which has been taught in numerous afterschool programs in New York and has branched out to New Jersey schools, teaches kids that they can not only play games online, but create them. CodeAdvantage emphasizes a fun, interactive and educational experience for students in first through eighth grade. It is currently being offered as afterschool enrichment in Glen Ridgeand West Orangeschools. • codeadvantage. org

HOBOKENFARMS HELPS FIGHT HUNGER
HOBOKEN FARMS, the food vendor who supplies 30 weekly farmers markets across New Jersey and New York, has come a long way sinceMontclair resident Brad Finkel founded it in 1992. The success of its Big line of sauces— named TopPick in the Country by Wall Street Journal voters— has enabled the company to giveback to local communities. Recently, Hoboken Farms partnered with pasta-maker Banza, and donated 7,100 pounds of sauce to the COMMUNITY FOODBANK of New Jersey in Hillside. Combined with Banza’ s 6,300 pounds of pasta, that made for 50,000 gluten-free servings.
