editor’s letter
T
hough every issue of
Montclair Magazine is
a celebration of local
creativity, our fall issue
focuses on interior
design in particular.
Blanche Garcia, the owner of
B. Garcia Designs in
Montclair, talks about
her former reality show,
Hotel Impossible, and
her work as a consultant
on the recently renovat-
ed The George hotel.
And in “On Trend:
Home Edition,” design-
ers Catherine Belisle, Joanne Lariccia
and Diana Weinstein share how they
make homes look classic, contempo-
rary — and comfortable.
Now, on to the other creative
Montclairians who grace these pages.
Judy Newman, a children’s book
author, veteran editor and executive
vice president of the Scholastic Books
Reading Club, gives away books to
Halloween trick-or-treaters; in “A
Halloween Highlight,” she shares
feedback from some young recipients.
David Chan, concertmaster for New
York’s Metropolitan Opera Orchestra,
brings his world-renowned talent to
town as the conductor of the new
Montclair Orchestra, whose official
debut is Oct. 22 (“Please Welcome the
Montclair Orchestra.”) In the new and
exciting foods department, we review
the Montclair location of Robert Cho’s
Kimchi Smoke. And we take you on a
tour of the Nutley garden estate of
Silas Mountsier and Graeme Hardie.
It’s a sensory-stimulating hidden
gem that can only be described as
“Nutley’s Versailles.”
Do you have a talent, hidden or
otherwise? We’d love to hear about it,
at [email protected]. n
