editor’s letter
A
wise man — and
Montclair transplant
— once said to me
that what he loved
about the town is
that “People here are
interesting, and interested.” What
he meant, he explained, was that the
people who choose to live in the area
are accomplished,
and they like to feel
engaged in what’s
going on around
them. It seems to me
that every issue of
Montclair Magazine
bears that out.
Take, for example,
the Back to School
issue you hold in your hands. In “Just
Joking,” longtime resident Glenn
Eichler tells us what it’s been like
to be a comedy writer for Stephen
Colbert since the first days of The
Colbert Report. Jason Levine, recently
named chief marketing officer of
Sabra, spreads the word about hum-
mus and its endless varieties and
health benefits in “Hummus in Every
Home.” Former financial editor and
writer Steven Mintz talks about
HighschoolNGOConnect, the nonprof-
it he launched that helps kids in areas
with limited resources connect with
nonprofits around the world.
And then there’s Josh Allen. Our
22-year-old cover subject played foot-
ball while a senior at Montclair High
School, winning accolades from his
coaches, then was named top defen-
sive player in college football at the
University of Kentucky. This spring,
he was an NFL first round draft pick,
and will play his first pro game with
the Jacksonville Jaguars in September.
Read about his unstoppable rise in
“Montclair Football’s Secret Weapon.”
His career promises to be interesting.
