BACK TO SCHOOL 2019 MONTCLAIR MAGAZINE
Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Josh Allen is not only
exciting football fans nationwide, but adding to Montclair
High School’s tradition of producing talented players.
Often cited as one of the greatest athletes in N.J. history,
Aubrey Lewis rushed for nearly 4,500 yards and 49
touchdowns over his career at MHS. At Notre Dame,
he was a star in both football and track, and became the
first African-American captain of a sports program there
in 1957-58 when he helmed the track team. This image —
Lewis is No. 17 — was the cover photo of a program for the
Montclair vs. Kearny game held at Montclair’s Woodman
Field in October 1952.
