IT’S A RAP
Upper Montclair
IF YOU REBUILD IT,
THEY REALLY WILL
COME
After staying sadly empty for the past two
years, there’s hope that the BELLEVUE
THEATER marquees will be full again.
The owner of the property recently signed
a lease with Highgate Hall, a group of
backers including real estate developer Steven Plofker, film producer Luke Parker
Bowles and actor Patrick Wilson; the latter two are active in Montclair Film.
Highgate plans to thoroughly renovate the iconic show place, which opened in 1922
and was designed by Robert Anderson (whose father, Charles W. Anderson, donated
the land for nearby Anderson Park) into a popular destination. “I’ve been blown
away by all the local support and excitement,” says Parker Bowles. “It’s palpable.”

CAFÉ MOSO COMES
TO THE SOUTH END
Montclair native MICHAEL FLOYD and
his wife ZINA think of their new South
End bistro, CAFÉ MOSO, as “a place to
call home,” and they want the commu-
nity to feel that way in their cheery,
intimate space as well. Executive chef
David Ilmojahid has created a menu of
large and small plates accentuating
fresh and light dishes, including grilled
Spanish octopus, fish tacos, roasted
farm chicken and coco-hazelnut bread
pudding (dessert is for splurging, of
course). Sunday brunch, which is
served from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., features
three varieties of eggs benedict,
avocado toast and classic Johnny
cakes. Outside seating is available.

COURTESY
Last year, Montclair native, actor and comedian CHRIS
D’ELIA (whom we interviewed in our Fall issue) got
some buzz after posting videos of himself mimicking
recording artist Eminem. Taking the philosophy of
“If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em” to heart, Eminem and
fellow wrapper Logic recorded the collaborative track
“Homicide,” which samples D’Elia’s (hysterical) impres-
sion, and included it on Logic’s recently released album,
Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. “My manager called
me…and said, ‘Listen, you know the rapper Logic?’ I was like, ‘Yeah I do,’” D’Elia
told Billboard magazine. “And he said, ‘Well Eminem has a new song coming out
with him, and Eminem put you on the song, and they want to know if it’s okay?’”
Not only was it fine with D’Elia, but the comic gave away the rights to his riffs,
telling his manager, “I don’t care, man. It’s a huge honor.” And to top it off, D’Elia
also appears in the song’s video (pictured above), playing, you guessed it, Eminem.
