Inspired at a young age by a book on rewarding professions as well as by his
mother a dental hygienist, Dr. Szumita believes excellence in health care means a
total commitment to comfort and compassion for each patient.
During dental school at Case Western Reserve University School of Dentistry, Dr.
Szumita worked part-time as a phlebotomist at the adjoining hospital. There he
discovered a passion for surgery and then completed a general practice residency
at the VA Medical Center in Cleveland followed by a four year residency in Oral
and Maxillofacial Surgery at the VA Medical Center in East Orange and St.
Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in NJ.
Always in close collaboration with his associate, Dr. Marianne Cifelli, and their
well trained staff, Dr. Szumita derives great satisfaction when helping patients get
through procedures with comfort and ease. “The driving force behind by work is
the gift of helping people who are in need of care,” states Dr. Szumita.
In addition to his private practice, Dr. Szumita is dedicated to academia and the
education of future dentists. He dedicates much of his time as Associate Program
Director of the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Training Program at
New York Medical College. He also serves on the examination committee of the
American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.

DR. ANNE HARTNETT IS A BOARD CERTIFIED PERIODONTIST SPECIALIZING IN PERIODONTAL AND IMPLANT
dentistry. She is part of a team of periodontists at Perio Implant Specialists of New Jersey with
offices in Montclair, Parsippany and Sparta. Dr. Hartnett is a member of the American Academy
of Periodontology and completed the rigorous examination and certification process to earn the
designation as a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology.
Dr. Hartnett treats patients for periodontitis, a progressive periodontal disease that causes bone
loss around teeth. Her patients are treated with non-surgical and surgical procedures, including
the newest, minimally invasive techniques. Among the services Dr. Hartnett provides are dental
implants, scaling and root planing, periodontal plastic surgery, crown lengthening to enlarge teeth,
surgery to remove harmful bacteria and teeth cleaning. Dr. Hartnett is also certified to perform the
Chao Pinhole “Lunchtime Gum Graft” treatment for gum recession.
Many patients visit the office for implants, the optimal choice for replacing missing teeth. As a
specialist in surgery, Dr. Hartnett has been placing implants for more than 25 years and teaching
other dentists the latest procedures.
Dr. Hartnett and her staff are known for providing quality, personalized care. “We get to know
each patient to understand their needs. After a through clinical, and if necessary, state-of-the-art
radiological examination, I discuss the findings, their significance and treatment options,” she explains.
A graduate of Stonybrook School of Dental Medicine, Dr. Hartnett completed a dental residency at Brookdale Hospital Medical Center in New York.
She continued her periodontics specialty training at the University of Tennessee School of Dentistry and the Memphis Veterans Administration Hospital.
She is on the attending staff at Hackensack UMC Mountainside and has been teaching dental residents there since 1995. Dr. Hartnett is proud to have
been named a Montclair Magazine and New Jersey Monthly Top Dentist for the past four years.
