Montclair
Magazine’s
Back to School
issue. This year,
we highlight
instructors who are especially
beloved by their students. Of course,
there are so many stellar educators in
town that the piece could easily work
as an annual feature; due to space
restrictions,
we must limit our
“Unforgettable” teachers roundup to six.
We also speak with
Masiel RodriquezVars, who for the last
year has served as
executive director of
the Montclair Fund
for Educational Excellence, and essay
coach Pat Berry, who runs the
Montclair-based College Application
Camp.
But while this time of year brings
to mind classrooms and homework,
learning, of course, is a lifelong
process – or as auto titan Henry Ford
said, “Anyone who stops learning is
old, whether at 20 or 80. Anyone
who keeps learning stays young.” I
love that my job gives me an excuse
to ask questions of nearly anyone
about nearly anything. For example,
timed with our special section on Top
Doctors and Dentists, I interviewed
the CEOs of three local medical
centers, to better understand “The
Changing Face of (Local) Health
care.” I wondered what it’s like to be
a former New York Giant who passes
along what he’s learned as the NFL’s
Director of Youth & High School
Football; writer Kevin Meacham
provides answers in his interview
with Roman Oben. And what are the
pluses and minuses of living across
the street from MHS? Suzy Kass,
director of the Adult School of
Montclair, shares details.
With that, this letter comes full
circle. Share what you know at
