Seventy eight percent of Meals On Wheels seniors fall below the federal poverty line and 56% of seniors in San Francisco do not earn enough money to meet their basic needs. Just this year Mayor Lee invested $4 million in new funding for food security programs including an expansion of $2.6 million in home delivered meals. We want to make sure no senior goes hungry in San Francisco.

Mayor Lee joined Meals on Wheels of San Francisco to highlight the needs of low-income and homebound seniors in San Francisco. He delivered a hot meal to Fred and other seniors at the William Penn Hotel during their March for Meals campaign. Mayor Lee first met Fred when he was sweeping up in front of his home last year. The mayor thanked Fred for helping to keep the City clean while delivering one of the more than one million nutritious, balanced meals made to homebound seniors every year in San Francisco by Meals on Wheels.
