of course it backs that up with a
racing heritage that goes back
a century, when the famous
Maserati brothers established
their firm in Italy, culminating in
a glorious World Championship
for the great Juan manual Fangio on 1957, with arguably the
greatest F1 car of all time, the
famous 250F.
That was then, this is now, and
right now Maserati is on a roll in
South Africa, with plenty of interest in its cars following the establishment of a stand-alone distributorship by an Australian-owned
company.
Set to get many more people
into seats fronted by the famous
Trident logo is the new mid-sized
Ghibli, announced here three
weeks ago and available in basic Ghibli form, a much more potent Ghibli S model, and the subject of this test, the Ghibli Diesel.
Interestingly, the sales staff at
Maserati’s showroom on William
Nicol Drive revealed that this
test car was specced with fleet
sales in mind, and whilst it is early
days yet, there have been some
such sales already. That’s a big
change
