My experiment is called “HOPPING CORN”

The Materials We Need Are:

1.clear glass container

2.popping corn kernels

3.water

4.2 tbsp of baking soda

5.6 tbsp of white vinegar

6.food coloring [*this is

optional, but I’m choosing blue]

The Method We Use Is:

1.First, fill the glass container with water & add 2 drops of food coloring.

2.Add 2 tbsp of baking soda & stir well until you don’t see any more baking soda.

3.Add a small handful of popping corn kernels.

4.Add 6 tbsp. of vinegar & watch the corn kernels start to HOP!

Science:

The chemicals in baking soda and vinegar combine to make gas bubbles that surround the corn kernels and make them float to the top of the blue water. When the corn kernels reach the surface of the water, the gas bubbles POP and the kernels fall back down to the bottom, and then the whole process starts over again. So it looks like the corn kernels are “HOPPING.”
