HOME IMPROVEMENT JULY 1, 2017 Cabinet Refacing Pros, Cons, and Everything In Between By Victoria Dominguez Owning a Kitchen and Bath Renovation Company has opened my eyes to all the amazing options homeowners have when remodeling. One of the most interesting concepts to me, is the concept of cabinet refacing. Cabinet Refacing, for those who don’t know, is the process of “remodeling” or “changing” your cabinets. It gives you the appearance of totally new cabinetry without actually having to remove your existing cabinet boxes! The process includes the stripping down of your cabinets to the bare bones, then covering the frame in a veneer to match your new color. After that, new doors and drawer boxes are added to your existing frames and VOILA! You have new cabinets. Sounds easy right?!? PROS: -Less Expensive -Much Faster Renovation! (2-4 days) Won’t Disturb Your Life for Long CONS: -No Layout Change -Cabinet Boxes Stay The Same e r efo B -Not A Great Option For Older Cabinets r te Af It’s actually not that easy. Cabinet refacing is a labor intensive process that can be very tedious. It takes skills and patience. (Much like raising kids, so us moms could definitely do it!) This is a perfect solution for someone that has moved into a home, hates the cabinet color, but has no issues with the kitchen layout. I should also mention, the cabinets need to be on the younger side, otherwise you are putting a bandaid on a broken leg. It won’t fix structural issues, damage, etc. All in all, cabinet refacing is an excellent choice for busy families. You won't lose your kitchen for long, but you will be completely satisfied with the aesthetic improvement!
