Mommy's Time Out Magazine July 2018 | Page 20

We have had a crazy busy fun summer so far. It’s safe to say it’s by far been the best one in years and we are literally soaking up every single minute. She’s like a different kid this summer as she should be. It’s her first summer since 2014 that she isn’t on chemo and you can 100% tell. Which is a great thing!

We are gearing up for all things Love McKinley as our biggest event of the year is in two weeks! Gah! The Love McKinley charity auction and dinner on July 13th and the Love McKinley golf tournament on July 14th. Since Love McKinleys inception in 2016 we have donated to 6 local families in the Manatee/Sarasota area and over 100K to Johns Hopkins All Childrens Hospital for research and development to help find a cure for this terrible disease. We have also provided 13 iPads attached to permanent rolling stands for use in the patient rooms which has been such an overwhelming success for the kiddos, nurses and parents it makes my heart explode ❤️ As well as a Vecta sensory machine to be used solely in the hematology/oncology clinic. I tell you all this that “we” (Love McKinley) has accomplished because we truly couldn’t of done it without your help, support & partnership. Thank You so much for all you guys do for Love McKinley. I can’t wait to recap these numbers after the golf tournament and we’d love to see you all there! We are still looking for sponsorship opportunities, donations & golfers so if you are around that weekend please join us!

Here’s to a great July!

Xoxo,

Karen

McKinley is doing really great. She's loving school, LOVING dance & enjoying being off chemo meds. It really is amazing how much she's grown, how much she's developed & how much more personality she has since she's stopped chemo. All things are looking great which is wonderful news. We've been very busy with advocating & promoting childhood cancer awareness month & attending a lot of events. We did have one scare at this months appointment but all was confirmed negative with an ultrasound. Myself, a few other "cancer moms" & McKinleys oncologist were all concerned about a vein by where her port was placed especially since she had a clot in the past. But all was confirmed ok with a quick ultrasound (Thank God). I'm not sure I'll ever be able to take a deep breath but I do try too. We are praying for a Halloween at home this year (last year we spent 8 days in the hospital fighting a nasty virus over Halloween). And although the nurses & staff came by her hospital room to trick or treat, I'm actually looking forward to sweating & fighting bugs on Halloween night this year. It's the little things 😉 Thank You as always for keeping McKinley in your thoughts & prayers.

xoxox,

Karen
