Homemade Baklava
This is a favorite of mine to bring to a cookie exchange. I can usually get 4 dozen small triangular pieces out of one recipe. It’s also something unique.
Ingredients:
2 cups ground walnuts
1 cup sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1 package frozen phyllo dough (thawed)
3 sticks butter (melted)
4-8 oz honey
Directions:
1. Finely grind walnuts. Combine walnuts with sugar and cinnamon and set aside.
2. Butter a 13x9 pan using a pastry brush. Layer 3 layers of phyllo dough, brushing each with butter then sprinkle sugar/walnut mixture. Continue with the 3 layers of phyllo dough then sugar mixture every 3 layers until all of the dough is used. Once finished cut in squares or small triangles.
3. Bake at 275 degrees for about 1 1/2 hours or until golden brown.
4. When the baklava is done and still warm drizzle 4-8 oz of honey over the top.
