Student athletes earn awards

the 2019–2020
Skelton Award
for Academic
Excellence. The
award is presented
to a rising junior,
senior or fifth-
year male and female student-athlete who has
participated in intercollegiate athletics for at
least two seasons at Virginia Tech with an
overall grade-point average of 3.40 or better.
Ian Ho, a gradu-
ate student, earned
the 2018- 2019
ACC Top Male
Scholar Athlete
Award. Students
must have senior
standing and pres-
ent a 3.00 or better
GPA on four of more semesters of academic
work at VT.
Cheng joins editorial board
Associate Professor Jiangtao Cheng has
recently been selected to join the editorial
board of the newly
launched Energy
Materials Journal,
a multidisci-
plinary, peer-re-
viewed journal
focusing on energy
harvesting, con-
version, storage,
utilization, and energy policy.
Komendera lab name change
The former
Autonomous Field
and Space Ro-
botics Laboratory
headed by Assis-
tant Professor Erik
Komendera has
been renamed the
Field and Space
Experimental Robotics Laboratory (FASER).
The Ware Lab took
possession of a 2019 Ford
F350 dually this spring.
The vehicle was paid for
with private donations from
Marvin and Sue Johnson,
Dale and Deborah Ham-
ilton, John and Elizabeth
Donehower, and the College
of Engineering. The truck
will be used by lab teams to
travel to competitions and
pull a 36-foot gooseneck
trailer.
