PACKING TIPS Will SAVE YOU MONEY
With the start up of travel one of the best ways to save money is to do some “ creative ” packing . Most all airlines ( exception Southwest ) are charging for checked in bags and even more for a second checked bag . Below is a list of packing tips for your trip .
• Scan all your important documents – passports , driver license , credit cards , and prescriptions , in case anything happens to any of these items . Put these copies in your carry on .
• Leave the travel books , maps and brochures behind by uploading tour guide apps onto your phone .
• Bring empty prescription pill bottles to pack your jewelry , and thread necklaces in straws to keep from knotting .
• Use a layer of plastic wrap to secure over bottle caps to prevent leakage .
• Pack baggies - they can be used for wet swimsuits , items for the beach , electronic cords , keeping dirty or wet clothes separate from clean clothes , replacing lost cosmetics bags , storing souvenirs , keeping dirty shoes contained , and just generally keeping your suitcase organized . Also they are great for swiping food for lunch from the buffet breakfast or for saving the seashells you collected . As a bonus , bring a small , collapsible cooler with a baggie filled with ice from the hotel to keep your lunch or drinks cold .
• Pack travel size toiletries and a small sewing kit .
• Coordinate your outfits – choose items carefully and plan clothing that is interchangeable by choosing one color palette . For variation , choose prints in the same color palette , and add a statement necklace , or a colorful neck scarf . Do not pack an equal amount of pants for tops . It ’ s easy to re-wear bottoms many more times than tops .
• Lay out all the clothes you intend to take … then put half of them away ! You ’ ll probably never regret not taking any piece of clothing on a trip but will regret packing too much . Take double the amount
of underwear that you think you ’ ll need – you never know when that extra pair will come in handy !
• Stuff your shoes with small items such as underwear & jewelry – then cover the shoes in shower caps to keep other items clean . Try to pack only one pair of extra-comfy shoes and another , maximum two if you can .
• ROLL don ’ t fold . Rolled up clothing is less likely to wrinkle and takes up less room in your suitcase and is easier to move the items around in the suitcase to fill spaces when packing .
• Don ’ t forget the duct tape . You ’ ll find a million and one uses for it . Wrap an old credit card ( or plastic card ) with about 1 – 2 feet of the tape so you won ’ t have to bring the entire roll .
• Most important is to Leave space in your suitcase . Use the extra room for souvenirs and purchases you make during travel . You would not want to leave that great find behind – or worse yet – pay extra baggage fees for it .
