BLUEBONNET SEASON IS HERE ! Time for a Day Trip

Every spring , the

bluebonnet craze takes over our state for a few weeks . The season only lasts about a month , so once you find a nice patch of them , you ’ ll have to act quickly ! Bluebonnets usually bloom from March through April . Early to mid-April is the peak time to grab your camera and head to Chappell Hill . This is one of the best places to view and photograph the beauty of the Texas Bluebonnets . The drive to Chappell Hill is just under two hours from League City driving northwest on Hwy 290 . Bluebonnets historically appear along Highway 290 East and FM 390 . You will be amazed by the roadside fields transformed with hundreds of thousands purple and blue flowers lining the hillsides of the highway . While in Chappell Hill look for a large bluebonnet field north of the town next to the parking lot of First Baptist Church .
Even our Arctic Freeze ( Feb 14 – 20 , 2021 ) did not damage the young plants , as the “ Texas Snow ” protected them from the freeze like a blanket .
Washington County , located on Highway 290 between Austin and Houston , is filled with Bluebonnets , and makes for an easy Day Trip . This is also the home of Brenham and the Bluebell Creamery . The Ice Cream Parlor and Visitors Center is opened 8AM – 5PM Monday – Friday . Brenham also has a Wildflower Watch website complete with a wildflower map . https :// visitbrenhamtexas . com / Wildflower-Watch /
Wondering where the large fields of bluebonnets can be found ? Be adventurous and take the narrow state and county roads off the beaten path throughout
Washington County .

Their website offers updated information on wildflowers , additional trails , and events in the area : www . wildflower . org
Texas Bluebonnets are found throughout hill country , including such wonderful places as Fredericksburg , Llano , Marble Falls , and Burnet , ( pronounced burn-it ), which is known as the Bluebonnet Capital of Texas . when the Texas State Legislature officially designated that title in 1981 . Every year Burnet , ( 60 miles west of Georgetown on Hwy 29 ), celebrates the blooming wildflowers at the annual
Bluebonnet Festival the second weekend of April .
Visiting Fredericksburg , stop by Wildseed Farms , the largest working wildflower farm in the US with beautiful bluebonnet displays .
