MEMBER NEWS Autism Center at Misericordia University Holds Grand Opening Peoples Security Bank & Trust Supports Local Education For the third consecutive year Peoples Security Bank & Trust committed more than $1 million as part of the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) Program. The donations are administered through Commonwealth Charitable Management and are used to award scholarships and grants to numerous schools, colleges and organizations within the bank’s market area. During 2019, more than 650 scholarships were issued to 36 local schools. Grants were also awarded to 41 organizations and school districts in support of Educational Improvement Projects. Peoples Security Bank also funded the program costs of the EverFi Financial Literacy Program that is currently offered to 20 local high schools. The Autism Center at Misericordia University recently held a grand opening celebration. As a regional hub for the Autism Collaborative Centers of Excellence, the Autism Center helps connect people with autism spectrum disorders and their families with services and supports in the area. Marywood University Receives Robert H. Spitz Grant FNCB Bank Donates to Local Organizations FNCB employees recently donated grocery gift cards and more than 220 gifts to 17 local families from the Catherine McAuley Centers of Lackawanna and Luzerne County, Children and Youth Services of Wayne County and Victims Intervention Program as part of the Bank’s “Adopt- A-Family” holiday project. Hazzouri Dental Celebrates 70 Years in Business Dr. Albert Hazzouri Jr., of Hazzouri Dental in Scranton, recently celebrated 70 years of business. Lackawanna College Environmental Center Receives EITC Donation The Peoples Security Charitable Foundation recently presented the Lackawanna College Environmental Center with an Educational Improvement Tax Credit donation of $50,000. The gift helps to continue the College’s environmental education programming for students in kindergarten through grade 12. 8 • The Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce Marywood University was awarded the 2019 Robert H. Spitz Foundation Grant for its S.T.A.R.S (Students Together Achieving Remarkable Success) program, an after-school mentoring/homework help program. Through this program, Marywood students mentor Latinx youth in grades 7-12 to bring more awareness to the options that exist in higher education and to help them define future goals. PPL Supports the University of Success PPL contributed $10,000 through the Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program to support The University of Scranton’s University of Success, a multi-year, pre-college program for high school students designed to develop the skills needed to successfully gain entrance to college.
