President’s Message
It’s the Chamber’s 150th anniversary this year, but we’re also observing another
milestone.
Leadership Lackawanna is completing its 35th year of developing community
volunteers. Under the Chamber umbrella, a small steering committee, including the
late Governor William Scranton and his wife Mary, formed the organization to prepare
the next generation to assume the mantle of community leadership.
Although the goal of the Leadership Lackawanna Core Program has remained
unchanged, other components have been added. The Executive Program, initiated
in 1988, is designed for those new to the area or new to their position. Held in the
evenings, it provides an introduction to the community in a relaxed social setting.
The third piece of the Leadership triad is “Tomorrow’s Leaders Today”, similar to the
Core program, but specifi cally for high school juniors. Started by Skills in Scranton in
1996, it has become a natural part of the Leadership Lackawanna repertoire.
I encourage you to read more about this year’s Core class and their projects in this
issue of “Momentum” and join us at the Hilton Scranton on June 14 for the Celebration
of Leadership. For reservations or information, visit leadershiplackawana.com.
Hope to see you there!
