Lackawanna College Football Team Supports Here for
a Reason
Northeast Regional Cancer Institute Hosts Spirit of
Hope Celebration
The Lackawanna College football team recently helped
with food packaging in preparation for Here for a Reason’s
community-wide food packaging. Here for a Reason is a local
non-profit organization that seeks to address the issue of
food insecurity in northeastern Pennsylvania.
The Northeast Regional Cancer Institute and the Board
of Ambassadors and Associate Board recently hosted its
eighth annual Spirit of Hope Celebration. The Spirit of Hope
Celebration benefits the Cancer Institute’s Community-
Based Cancer Screening Navigation Program, which helps
low income and un/underinsured individuals in northeast
Pennsylvania get their recommended colorectal, breast,
cervical, and lung cancer screenings.
Lackawanna College Receives Donation
The Lackawanna College recently received a $2,600
donation from the Gino LaRusso Foundation for Suicide
Awareness. These funds will be used to support suicide
prevention programming provided by the College’s
Student Wellness Program. Gino LaRusso was a student of
Lackawanna College’s School of Hospitality.
Schumacher Named Assistant Vice President of
Community Engagement & Government Affairs
The University of Scranton has named Julie Schumacher
Cohen assistant vice president for community engagement
and government affairs. In this position, she will report to
the vice president for enrollment management and external
affairs and will also work closely with the provost and senior
vice president for academic affairs.
In her new role, Ms. Schumacher Cohen will work to deepen
the University’s community engagement efforts and
government affairs activities and strengthen the mission of
the University as an anchor institution in our city and region.
She will also work to expand further community-based
learning activities and collaboration between academic affairs
and external community and government partners, including
grant-seeking efforts.
Misericordia University Hosts 10th Annual Health Care
Symposium
Misericordia University recently hosted its 10th Annual Health
Care Symposium, entitled “The Patient-Centered Model: Health
and Wellness Achieved.” The Misericordia University Health Care
Advisory Council also named Susan Sordoni, M.D., the recipient
of the second annual Excellence in Health Care Award, which is
presented to a Misericordia University alumnus who has made
significant and profound achievements in the field of health care.
