President ’ s Message

“ Not Your Average Chamber ”

When you joined The Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce , you joined a Chamber that differs from the rest . Although we offer many of the usual programs you find at other chambers , we are so much more .

What you may not realize is that The Chamber is the parent organization for the Scranton Lackawanna Industrial Building Company ( SLIBCO ), Lackawanna Industrial Fund Enterprises ( LIFE ), Skills in Scranton , MetroAction , Leadership Lackawanna and The Scranton Plan .

SLIBCO , one of our best-known affiliates , was formed in 1945 . Early efforts involved the construction of “ shell buildings ,” which would then be finished to an industry ’ s specifications . As the need for industrial sites grew , SLIBCO purchased land in Dunmore and Throop and established Keystone Industrial Park . More land development followed , including Stauffer Industrial Park , Scott Technology Park , The Office Park at Montage , Glenmaura Corporate Center , Valley View Business Park and Jessup Small Business Center .

With a record 22 projects announced for 2015-16 , SLIBCO was recognized last November as the “ Economic Development Agency of the Year ” by the Pennsylvania Economic Development Association .

Not bad for a 71-year-old , huh ? A youngster by comparison ,
