“Our 150 th Anniver
The 150th anniversary of The Chamber is a time for us to
refl ect on our history and to look forward to our future.
UPCOMING
EVENTS
From our beginnings as the Merchant’s Association to the Board of Trade
and, fi nally, as The Chamber, we have remained true to our mission of
improving the quality of life of this region’s citizens by encouraging new
industries to locate here.
Past efforts focused heavily on our region’s rail and anthracite coal
industries; with successful negotiations of lower rail freight prices, the
development of transportation infrastructure and the construction of public
buildings and parks. Thanks to our efforts, our region was part of a wartime
manufacturing boon in the 1940s that transformed into today’s approach of
developing industrial and business parks and recruiting businesses to our
area.
Over the next few months, we will celebrate this milestone with you, our
members and volunteers. It is you and your forebears who have led this
community for the past 150 years and it is you who will lead us into the
future, remaining focused on the pressing needs of the day and committed
to improving the quality of life for the citizens of our region.

In last month’s edition of Momentum, we ran an article about the NEPA Youth
Shelter. The shelter is currently operating as an after-school teen drop-in center,
not an overnight center. For more information, visit www.nepayouthshelter.org.
