Core Program Class Projects Announced !
The Leadership Lackawanna Core Program Class of 2016-2017 will complete three service projects this year . As part of the 10-month curriculum , participants collaborate with local non-profit organizations to complete various projects . In doing so , it helps enhance participant leadership skills and fosters teamwork . These projects impact the community , address a need and result in a tangible end product . The projects this year will benefit :
Artists For ART ( AFA ) Gallery :
Leadership Lackawanna Core Program participants will help rebrand the AFA Gallery and create a marketing plan to assist AFA in bringing the arts to a wider audience . This plan will include the creation of a new membership brochure , updating the organization ’ s web presence , and more . The participants will also help streamline AFA ’ s membership database and plan a meet-andgreet event for the community where the AFA ’ s new look will be unveiled .
Friends of the Poor :
Leadership Lackawanna Core Program participants will help market the Friends of the Poor ’ s new “ Need a Ride ?” program , which provides free transportation to and from medical appointments to Carbondale residents who can safely ride in a minivan . The program will be marketed to potential drivers , health care professionals and potential clients . Leadership Lackawanna will also help create an electronic data gathering system that patients , drivers and healthcare providers can use to complete tasks like scheduling rides , tracking mileage , and referring patients .
St . Joseph ’ s Center :
Leadership Lackawanna Core Program participants will assist with marketing the center ’ s First Home Program , which helps mothers from Walsh Manor and Mother Infant Home when they move into permanent housing . Leadership Lackawanna will help create marketing materials and organize and implement a volunteer team campaign and create an inventory / collection system for the center , including a furniture collection event to help boost inventory .
SLIBCO Recognized as Economic Development Large Agency of the Year
The Scranton Lackawanna Industrial Building Company ( SLIBCO ), the industrial development arm of The Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce , was recognized as the Economic Development Large Agency of the Year by the Pennsylvania Economic Development Association ( PEDA ).
Recognizing organizations for their demonstration of outstanding accomplishments in economic development , SLIBCO was honored for the implemented work plan of business attraction , sustainment and growth related to the announcement of 22 projects within Lackawanna County for the 2015-2016 fiscal year . The result was the creation and / or retention of 2,140 jobs , 1,100 construction jobs and a total community investment of over $ 1.25 billion . From the development of the Scranton Enterprise Center and The TekRidge Center – which are both focused on business incubation – to the launch of Powered By LACKAWANNA , an online business portal for entrepreneurs , SLIBCO was recognized for its positive economic impact on its community as well as its commitment to innovation .

This is the fourth time SLIBCO has been the recipient of a PEDA Award . In 1994 , SLIBCO received the Economic Development Large Agency of the Year Award . In 1998 , Andrew Skrip , Vice President of Industrial Development , was awarded Economic Developer of the Year and in 2011 , SLIBCO ’ s development of Valley View Business Park Phase II was named Project of the Year .
