MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDE
Dear Chamber Family & Friends,
While the League City Regional Chamber works
back to normal post COVID, we must pause to reco
this very moment, we are nowhere near “business a
Commonwealth or the country.
We begin a new month deeply troubled by rece
the state of our Union. Last month, the senseless, b
George Floyd at the hands of police officers was br
forefront again the shameful, prevalent reality of racism which remains de
our country.
I stand in solidarity against racism and advocate for diversity, equity, a
our society and economy. As a nation, we must address this issue with a r
action.
I struggle for the words that can adequately express my emotions abo
injustices in our society. This is a distressing time, indeed, for our commu
nation. I am disappointed in the inequities I see occurring and am sad fo
are personally impacted across the country as community leaders, busin
and most importantly, individuals. I am concerned for many members of
City Regional Chamber family, as well as those that I call friends, neighbo
ones. Many have voiced the same broad, spectrum of emotions: anger,
exhaustion. Discrimination or racial bias is not progressive and further im
of race relations in our great country.
There is overwhelming evidence that greater diversity benefits the Am
economy, businesses, communities, and employees. At the Chamber, we
a job means to a family and to a community. We will leverage our experti
relationships to help develop solutions that will enhance diversity, equity
in our economic system. People across the nation are rallying for social j
change—and we hear you. We stand against racism, inequalities, and disc
any kind.
To the business community, we hear you, too. It is profoundly disturbin
looting, vandalism, and the destruction of property when peaceful prote
violent. It’s time for change. We must confront the uncomfortable truth o
inequality in our nation. Together we can step up as leaders and work tow
equitable future. Now is the time!
Let us all commit to do our respective parts, however small or large th
bringing positive, meaningful discussion to our community regarding rac
in America and how to bring about a roadmap for change, moving us thr
beyond where we are in this moment in time.
