Houston Methodist St. John celebrates the
grand opening of its new Childbirth Center
The all-new Childbirth Center at Houston Methodist St. John
Hospital is celebrating its grand opening on Tuesday, Aug. 9,
from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The public is invited to stop in and tour the facility, meet the physicians and enjoy lite bites
and giveaways.
“We are extremely proud of our new family-friendly Childbirth Center and its contemporary design and
amenities,” said Dan Newman, CEO of Houston Methodist St. John. “As the newest birthing center in the Bay
Area, we offer moms-to-be a boutique-style birthing experience that is not only safe, comfortable and convenient,
but also brings the expertise of world-renowned neonatology care to manage complex births.”
The Childbirth Center at Houston Methodist St. John features
19 private labor, delivery, recovery and post-partum suites with
state-of-the-art delivery beds, allowing moms and babies to stay
in one room throughout their time in the hospital. Each suite is
beautifully appointed and features an earth-tone color palette
chosen to provide a calming, nature-like environment. Suites
have specially designed furniture, including a sofa, with recliners,
that transitions into a bed.
With comfortable glider rockers, flat-screen televisions, complimentary wi-fi and easy-to-access, walk-in showers
for mom’s comfort, each suite offers a relaxed, home-like setting.
After delivery, mom and dad receive a special meal prepared by the hospital chef to celebrate their newborn’s
arrival. Siblings and visitors are welcome to enjoy bonding time with the newborn.
The Childbirth Center’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is managed in partnership with Texas Children’s
Hospital, a recognized leader in the treatment of babies born with complications or prematurely. Under the
leadership of medical director Samina Jamil, MD, board-certified, fellowship-trained neonatologists provide onsite,
around-the-clock care, making Houston Methodist St. John the only hospital in the Bay Area with a Level II NICU
offering Texas Children’s Hospital neonatology expertise to families.
“The partnership with Texas Children’s Hospital ensures that we have experienced, knowledgeable neonatologists
in the unit, every hour of the day, every day of the week,” said Jamil. “This is a tremendous benefit to new moms
and their babies, because it means that in the event a newborn needs special attention, the infant can stay right
here close to home while still receiving the best possible care.”
Houston Methodist St. John Hospital is also implementing a state-of-the-art infant security system that uses wi-fi
technology to ensure babies are always paired with the right mom, and that no unauthorized individual can leave
the hospital with a baby.
“The new Childbirth Center is a fantastic addition to the Bay Area, and one that any mom-to-be should consider,”
says Fernando Ocon, MD, medical director of Houston Methodist Obstetrics & Gynecology Associates at St. John.
“It’s an intimate, personalized setting, with lots of one-on-one attention from our nursing staff and breastfeeding
coaches in a relaxed, calming atmosphere. Moms will love being able to stay in one suite and welcome their new
baby in such a beautiful environment.”
