Don ’ t Let High Energy Bills Cut Into Your Summer Budget

In Texas , the rising summer temperatures make it a challenge to keep homes comfortable and energy budgets affordable . Here are a few tips to help beat the summer heat :
1 . Schedule a maintenance checkup for your air conditioner . Qualified air conditioning specialists can determine any service your unit needs to run efficiently . Some simple tasks will improve air conditioner performance such as cleaning up any leaves or debris on or around the outside unit and changing AC filters regularly . 2 . Install ceiling fans to help circulate air throughout the house . 3 . Check insulation around doors and windows . A tight seal around doors and windows keeps cold air in and the heat out . 4 . Make sure the air vents throughout the house are not blocked so air flows freely . 5 . Keep the doors and windows closed . With the children home in the summer , pool or backyard fun often leads to doors being left open .
6 . Enjoy outdoor summer activities and cook on the grill instead of on the stove or in the oven . Cooking inside raises indoor temperatures and consumes energy . Outdoor activities will also reduce computer and TV energy usage .
7 . Install solar screens or awnings on windows . Window coverings help window efficiency by shading the glass so it stays cooler . They also lower the amount of UV rays that enter the house which raise temperatures and fade furniture and carpet . Blinds and window coverings are another way to cut back on sun entering your house .
8 . Install a programmable thermostat and set the household temperature based on times you are home . The house doesn ’ t have to be as cool when you are outside or away from home . 9 . Make sure your dryer vent is clean so the hot air exits the house like it ’ s supposed to .
In short , spend more time enjoying the outdoors , seal it up , keep it clean and shade it where possible . Enjoy your summer and don ’ t forget the sunscreen !
