Celebrating Dear ‘Ol Dad! By: Hilary Hart, [email protected] TradicaoSteakhouse.com Father’s Day is Sunday, June 19th this year and always falls on the third Sunday in June. The first celebration was June 19, 1910 but it wasn’t a permanent national holiday until 1972 when President Richard Nixon signed it into law. It’s the day of the year that you have the perfect opportunity to let dad know how awesome you think he is. Instead of getting him the traditional tacky tie, here are some great ways to honor him. 1. Get the kids involved If you have younger children, homemade, personalized gifts are the best! Breakfast in bed would be a nice surprise. Bonus: your kids get a cooking lesson and a cleaning lesson! Hand print paver kits are fun and easy. Add sparkles, flowers and special mementos that display your child’s personality. Frame some of their artwork for walls or shelves in dad’s office. Don’t worry if it’s not perfect or something is spelled wrong; that’s part of the charm of a homemade gift and the memory of when your kids were young. If your kids are a bit older, look for ideas that they can experience with dad. Teenagers aren’t always the most conversational so an active day might be just the thing to connect the family.A day at Top Golf, the batting cages, or for the more adventurous family, a kayak outing or deep sea fishing. The Bay Area has the best opportunities to enjoy a fun day outdoors. Plan ahead for the best possibilities. 2. Make a reservation at his favorite restaurant If eating is your family’s “thing”, pick a place with lots of items to choose from. Open Table is a great resource to find Father’s Day buffets and restaurants catering to dad. They also have reviews so you can be sure to pick the perfect place. You will be able to easily make your reservations here too. If your family loves to gather around the pool and bar-b-que, buy dad’s favorites and make it a day of food and fun! Whatever you decide, make it a fun, relaxing day for dad and make sure he knows how much you love him! MOMENTUM / Summer 2016 23
