From The President / CEO Steve Paterson Let’s Do Business! Good old American entrepreneurial spirit is alive and growing in League City, the region and in this great State of Texas. As in previous generations, people in this period of time are no different and are traveling to where the work and opportunity exists. Today that is here in Texas and more specifically, Austin, San Antonio, Dallas/Ft.Worth and of course Houston. It was my pleasure the last week to sit with a couple of chamber members who are chasing that elusive American dream of comforts and success. They, like many others, are looking to achieve the American dream and trying to figure out that magic formula that others seem to discover or find that we read about or hear in stories from others. We have all seen it or heard it … overnight success as a descriptor of those who seem to have arrived. They were passionate, engaged and focused in our discussion. They were seeking that magic bullet and hoping I would have that or would at least move them one step closer to their goal.We hope that this will be the first of many discussions we hope to have in the future as we continue to assist them on their journey. I have learned over the years that there are no secret formulas or mysterious ways that enable one to reach the American dream. To quote Winston Churchill; a young reporter said to him during the later stages of World War Two when the tides of war were turning in the Allies favor, “you seem to be very lucky sir,” to which Sir Winston replied after a few seconds of thought, “it seems the harder I work the luckier I get.” Over the years, I have had the pleasure to meet many individuals who have attained the elusive American Dream and had time to discuss with them their journeys. There is always common links in all their discussions with me; they include of course hard work, persistence, belief, the understanding of risk and the willingness to fail and most importantly, not being shy about seeking help and knowledge. They all had mentors or individuals they could turn too to talk out their frustrations, ideas and problems. They were seekers of knowledge and a thirst to learn believing that through this associative process, it would help lead to their success. As we close out the remainder of 2016 and move into 2017, we at the chamber of commerce want you to know we are here to help obtain those skills and knowledge that you may need to get to the next step in your journey to success. Our mission is to assist our members in anyway we can to help make sure you have the resources you need or the ability to meet or reach your goals. To find individuals who can assist you in getting to that next step in your journey to the American Dream. We feel honored that these members who we met with this past week have the trust in us to help them in their journeys. So our message to you our members is simple, let us help you do business. Who knows, between your hard work and our ability to make connections and supply knowledge, we may both be just that much closer to attaining the American Dream. So come see us and let’s do business.
