PROTECTING PRICELESS DATA
and YOUR PEACE OF MIND
N
ot Understanding The Loss Of Priceless
Information… Until It’s Lost.
True story: I was doing some work in my
store, getting ready for my opening when
a young lady stopped by to tell me of a
store that happened to her successful small business
during a recent storm. Lighting struck and fried her
iMac’s hard drive, causing her to lose EVERYTHING.
I felt so bad for her because many have been in that
situation – but all I could do at the time was hand her my
business card and inform her that I would never let that
happen to her again.
Disaster Recovery - Explained
Data backup and recovery, also known as disaster
recovery, is one of the most important factors, or should
be, for all organizations. If you are using that same
laptop for doing your business tasks at home,
then it is even more important for you to have
a backup of your files and data, as your
device is constantly hopping from one
network to another.
Why Data Backup is important?
The funniest thing I heard about
disaster was when my mentor
asked me, “When do you need a
backup?” I thought it was a trick
question, so I waited for
the answer, rather than
put my foot in my
mouth. Right after a
small chuckle, he
told me, “Right
before you lose
EVERYTHING!”
The 2 major
takeaways from
that story is

things you save to your device could come in handy
someday. Remember…YOU SAVED IT. Are your
confidential and, more importantly - priceless items
worth less to you than $100 a year?
• Undocumented Events - The most secure computer
in the world is not safe from unexpected events such
as lightning strikes or drive corruption (it happens),
which is also not covered under most warranties. If
your small business experiences a catastrophic event
like this to your front desk or office PC, wouldn’t it be
nice to go purchase a new computer and restore your
machine within hours (sometimes minutes) and get
back to business as usual.
Use prevention rather than cure.
The two simplest ways to back up your device.
1. Local Backup where a backup is taken on your local
system, usually to an external hard drive.
2. Cloud-Based Backup a backup of your
system is stored in a secure, remote location
on a powerful server, or group of servers
known as “The Cloud,” which is what the
general population knows as OneDrive
or Carbonite. Disaster recovery
companies typically come with levels of
support as well, based on how critical it is
to get the system back on-line quickly.
Cloud options are preferred over local
storage due to the ease of access and
tools. like carbonite offers a great solution
with the hassle-free environment for
backup and recovery.
